The Monious awakes!2/17/2008
Respected Sirs!
I am writing to complain about the nasty, unchristian posts of
last week which chose to engage in vicious and inappropriate mockery of those
of us who have made the lifestyle choice to grow soul patches. Numerous criticisms of what was said come to
mind, but the let the following suffice – for now:

Ref21 Hits New Low5/3/2007 Typical. Rather than rejoicing in the action of ECUSA, your pharisaic cyber-rag has once again chosen to sneer at others. When will you people realise that New Jersey politicians are just made that way? It is not there fault and we should not stand in self-righteous judgment over them. From at least as early as Ambrose, the church has been ordaining men of dubious political pedigree. Political corruption should be seen as a gift of God; and we Reformed should put aside our reactionary prejudices and follow the lead of our episcopal brothers by reaching out to this despised minority and allowing them thus to enrich Christ's church (in used notes, non-sequential numbers, of course).
For those who want a more edifying read, I am about to start my own venture, a monthly magazine with the title Pan de Monium (which, for all you little people out there who don't know Greek like wot I do means `A total Monious thing'). Indeed, so important is this venture that I humbly believe that on the day of judgment it will be revealed that Pan de Monium was my single greatest contribution to the life of the church.
As to the return of Paul Helm to your rag: sirs, the church is in need of better than this!
I remain your humble and obedient servant,

Yet another complaint about offensive stereotyping from our godliest reader1/30/2007
Dear Sir, Once again I am constrained to put pen to paper, or, rather, finger to keyboard, to complain about the stereotyping and cheapshotting of Christian brethren to which your blog is so prone. Link to this postRead More

Old magazines12/28/2006 While trawling through my church basement recently, I came across some sixteenth century magazines (at least, I think they're sixteenth century), `Ye Bannyr of Trouthe'. Interesting insights into the problems faced by Christians in the Reformation are given by the monthly agony column `Cases of Conscience; being a marrowy and benedictional applicatyon of Goddes Hooly Woorde to Everyday Circumstance of Believer's Sojourning in the Presente Woorlde' by a Learned Doctour Phillip Cartwright AM.' Here's a sample: Link to this postRead More

Monious 1 Trueman 012/24/2006
At this festive season, I am delighted to return to the blog, encouraged by the comment of a former fan of the page:
`As to R21 blog site. It's so BORING and PIOUS. In fact I rarely read it.'
Well done, gentlemen! The Monious school wins.
Thanks to all the correspondents who have made this sanctimonification possible: Rt Rev Tim Kop (where would we be without him -- or is it her??); The Rushdoony Research Foundation (Berlin Chapter); and the GOPCA.
As to Trueman -- he needs counselling. The sooner he can go to his quiet place, begin the healing process, reconnect with his inner self, and learn to share himself with others, the sooner he will make progress on his journey. Piety on, dudes, piety on! Link to this post

Stop the curse of Trueman now!!!9/14/2006
Dear Mr Thomas,
I feel I must once again write to you to request the removal of Carl Trueman from your e-zine. The reason? The evil power which his blogs seems to exert over events in nthe wider world. I had tolerated this up until now, but the latest outrage is too much: no sooner does Trueman blog about Dog the Bounty Hunter (a wonderful example of American law-enforcing manhood) than said Dog is taken to the pound – arrested in Mexico, no less. This would not be so bad if it were not part of a pattern. Consider the Trueman family record: Link to this postRead More

Congratulations, Rev Thomas! You've finally got the message.8/29/2006 While I had vowed never to return to your scurrilous e-rag, I must say I am impressed, nay, very impressed, nay, nay, nay --- very very, very impressed with the response to Dale's review of Velvet Elvis in the We Get Letters column. A wonderful example of the kind of thoughtful argument, careful attention to biblical and historical trajectories of theological reflection, a nuanced and carefully critical appropriation of the very best and most subtle forms of modern philosophy, and throughout the folksy, gentle, winsome conversational style that is oh so attractive to those of us who are disillusioned with the way church and theology have been done for the last two thousand years. Well done, Rev Thomas, the church is in need of much more material just like this! 7 out 10, old boy, 7 out of 10.
I was talking just the other day with my friend, the RC theologian, Mgr Finton Stack, about the need for metaphor: `Indeed, life is like a fountain,' he declared. `Indeed,' I replied `But, umm, what do you mean by that?' `Zut alors, imbecile!' he cried (he's so sophisticated -- fluent in French, having grown up in Hackney) `Alright, alright, life is not like a fountain!' Profound or what? Link to this post

Sounds like commie talk to me8/11/2006 Typical of Trotter -- but what do you expect from someone who hails from the People's Islamo-Socialist Republic of Englandialand. Is is `Trotter' or `Trotsky' I ask myself?
Has he never read any of John Hagee's works? What of Hal Lindsey? Has he never sat at the feet of Jack and Rexella with an attitude of humble teachability? Of course the Bible speaks very specifically about the kind of issues Greg Boyd is equivocating on.
Sirs, I've said it before and I'll say it again, the church is in need of better things than this! Link to this post

Typical7/18/2006 Now that Ref21 has overcome its existentialist bias against non-existent characters (when, oh when, will you tired old reactionaries really come to grips with postconservatism and drop your pathetic commitment to outmoded notions such as truth and reality???) and allowed Tony and his pals back on board, it strikes me as so typical of Rev Thomas to start by making an ethnically insensitive comment about the English.
If I might quote Cecil Rhodes, as I often do, `Ask any man what nationality he would prefer to be, and ninety-nine out of a hundred will tell you that they would prefer to be Englishmen.' There -- let that be a lesson to you all.
As I've said before, the church is in need of better stuff than this pointless blog. Oh, and by the way, I have some Welsh world-cup football shirts for sale -- as new, never been used. It's a long time since the glory days when Pelagius played at number 9, but let us not be small-minded and forget all those great Welsh contributions, footballing and theological, to world culture.
