Providence...hey, didn't Rick Pitino used to coach there?

7/28/2006

Say the word “providence” and many people would suspect that you are speaking of a catholic college in Rhode Island. Theologically speaking, it is a rusty old word that has lost its significance in the modern world, kind of like the words “humility” and “modesty”. But whether or not the word is in vogue is inconsequential. The matter of import is that it aptly describes the activity of God in space and time. Does God guide human destiny? Of course we would say “yes”. After all we are Reformed and we defend God’s sovereignty and work in history, that is, until God starts meddling with our pet sins and idolatries. Or that other thing that He does; irritatingly preventing us from getting what we want. Providence is more than a college; it is a timeless reality and necessity.

Elliott's First Attempt at the Blog: The Lusitania's Story

6/26/2006

It was my maiden voyage at blogging. Initially, I thought that a blog had something to do with how Dutch people dance. Being corrected of this misconception, I attempted to post a blog two weeks ago; however, I encountered a moment in sanctification because of a software glitch in the logon protocol. (The Catholics are right. There is definitely a purgatory. It is called Microsoft.) I finally made it through the toils and trials of the software glitches with much help, only to accidentally delete my first blog. Let’s blame that one on e-depravity, not Bill Gates’ but mine, although I do believe that he is the eschatological antiprogrammer who has gone into antitrust perdition. Nevertheless, I am happy to be here to share a recent experience.
